Stay Good By Getting Better

My favourite Atlas Coffeehouse is monstrously successful and they are not staying still to stay good. Where others would sit back and sip their success, they are shutting their place down for 40+ days to make it even better!

When I first found out, I almost protested! The place still looks and smells GREAT so why would you do that? PLUS WHAT AM I GOING TO DO ABOUT MY COFFEE??!! For utterly selfish reasons, I didn’t want them to do it.

But deep down, I so admired them.

It is not easy making good coffee and more so making it financially successful and rewarding. And Atlas Coffeehouse has all these attributes. Many other coffee places who have found success have stayed status quo and are still on cruise control.

But for these gals and guys at Atlas Coffeehouse, staying still to stay good is not their brew.

They know they are good. But they are not staying still. They are staying good by getting better.

An Inspiration To Stay Good By Getting Better

And THAT to me, is inspiration! Not just about a coffee place. But an inspiration and a timely reminder to my own personal life.

Admittedly, I am a cruise control kind of guy. When the going gets good, the cruise control gets going. And once too often, I stay still on it far too long. Be it my work, career, or passion. I am not being challenged here about changing work, career or passion for the sake of change. I am being challenged about making them better. Making my life better.

And in retrospect, the good do begin to crumble … when I stop getting better.

Bringing change when we are seeing success or when it seems we least need it may seemed unnecessary and be even uncomfortable.

If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it. We hear that all the time. Common sense. Or is it?

My young friends at Atlas Coffeehouse don’t think so. And they are right. Common sense may not be that sensible sometimes. Not this instance.

We don’t stay still and do nothing to stay good.

We challenge that sensibility.

We stay good by getting better.
