You can help your child discover their talent themes with the online Clifton Youth StrengthsExplorer. In the Clifton Youth StrengthsExplorer, there are in total 10 emerging talent themes. Today, we cover the talent theme of FUTURE THINKER.
Children with the FUTURE THINKER talent theme loves envisioning what could be, what if, and if only. They focus less on facts and more on ideas. Possibilities are far more exciting for them that practicalities.
The prospect of being able to see what is possible, and not just the present, motivates them deeply. Dreams and fantasies are what children with the FUTURE THINKER theme constantly have. Imagination is normal for them.
They don’t just want to do things, but they want to do things BIG! They are not interested in the same old things everyday but they are more interested in seeing what newer, bigger things they can do. The possibility of change and the new gives them meaning. In the things that are important to them, they have the drive to want to make them even better, and different from before.

3 Things Parents Can Do To Help Their Children With The FUTURE THINKER Talent Theme
Here are 3 things that you can do: –
- Get imaginative with your children! Explore with imagination. Don’t be bounded by facts but together create stories and ideas that are off the grid, imaginative and deliciously different. When you do this with your child, you are encouraging them to tap into their future-oriented minds and at the same time, they will appreciate you for joining them in the ride into the unknown!
- Share stories of other future thinkers, inventors and creators. This will spark their little minds, validate their orientation and motivate them to actualise their thinking. It also gives them models to look up to and know that imagination can become reality one day.
- Play the game of “If you are … What would you be doing?” Go into role play. If you are a policeman, what would you be doing? If you are an astronaut, what would you be doing?
Experiment, Cherish And Enjoy
So there! I hope the tips above would have been useful in helping your child.
The idea for you as a parent or educator is to create the environment of “flourishment” for your children.
Knowing the talent theme of your children gives you the clues to how you can flourish them by helping them recognize their talent themes and using them every day. Use this activity book to quickly and simply kick things into motion. Experiment with different approaches and scenarios and enjoy seeing your child come alive through their talent themes.
Remember: Every child is different and even if they have the same themes, their responses can be distinctly different in the same scenario.
Enjoy the time spent with your child in discovering and learning about their talents and strengths. Take it slow and enjoy the process.
